Breaking barriers and empowering women in Information Technology
At IT Glass Ceiling, we empower women in tech through research, education, and strategic initiatives. We tackle systemic barriers hindering women's IT career advancement, addressing root causes of the gender disparity. Our goal is to create an equitable workplace where women can thrive, transforming the IT landscape and creating equal opportunities. By breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity, we're not just opening doors—we're reshaping the future of IT to ensure all talented individuals can succeed, regardless of their gender.
The first module centers on building a deep understanding the critical importance of addressing the gender gap in IT, highlighting women as essential partners in the field. Additionally, this segment aims to foster an empathic awareness of the numerous and significant challenges that women in in IT encounter. Drawing from adult learning theory (Rothwell, 2020), this section recognizes that adults learn best when intrinsically motivated—a "pull" rather than "push" approach. Key features include immersive storytelling, presentations featuring industry statistics about the contributions of women, active listening and facilitated open-ended discussions. This foundation of empathy and appreciation sets the stage for subsequent parts of the program, ensuring participants are emotionally invested and motivated to drive meaningful transformation.
This module dives deep into the factors that contribute to an inequitable workplace for women in IT. Through immersive and introspective exploration of these complex topics using experiential learning techniques (Kolb, 1984), participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex and often sensitive issues at play. Key components include: In-depth case studies, guided reflection sessions, and immersive virtual experiences,. This understanding serves as a crucial foundation for developing effective strategies to create a more equitable industry.
This final module critically examines current interventions in place to address the gender gap in IT, highlighting why many fall short of their intended goals because they focus on the symptoms rather than root causes. Leveraging action research principles (Stringer & Aragon, 2021), this section emphasizes collaborative knowledge creation and solution development. Key features include : critical analysis workshops, collaborative solution design, interactive problem-solving workshops, brainstorming, and scenario planning. By focusing on root causes and employing collaborative, action-oriented methodologies, this section aims to develop more effective, sustainable solutions to the gender gap in IT.
